up on the walls talking
For me, art tells a story. It communicates something about something, it praises or critiques culture or society, or society's view of something.
Art can be simple, complex, complete or forever a work-in-progress - but it aways says something.
My paintings take a great deal of influence from freehand sketches.
I remember sitting at the kitchen table watching my mother dance a pen over envelopes, over over-due bills, over the backs of cereal boxes and really over anything else that would accept the pen's ink.
I watched as her wiggly markings began to take shape into daisy-chains of sorts, complete with flowery tangles of imagined flowers, bushy leaves and bendy stems.
It's the story of letting go and discovery that informs everything I do.
